Problem:

When a refrigerator fails to keep your ice cream or milk cold, know there can be a number of causes. Before pursuing advanced techniques, we suggest that you first try some easy solutions.

• Make sure the unit is plugged in and the light comes on when you open the door.

• Check the refrigerator thermostat to make sure it is working

• The rear vents should not be obstructed by frozen vegetables or ice cream boxes.

• Use a vacuum cleaner to vacuum the coils, as clogged coils may be the culprit.

• The condenser fan should rotate freely and should not get stuck. All you need to do is unplug the appliance and remove the capacitor. Also, clean the fan blades and turn it by hand to see if it works. Put it back on, turn on the fridge and see if it works fine.

How to replace the evaporator fan

Follow the steps below:

Remove the cover

First, remove the cover to take a look at the evaporator and access the evaporator fan.

Remove the fan cover

If there is a fan cover, you can remove the screws to access the fan.

Remove the evaporator fan

If you are sure that the fan is not spinning or making noise, you should replace it. First, turn off the refrigerator and remove the screws.

Replace the fan

Put a new fan in place of the old one. Use the damaged fan mounting bracket on the new one. Unplug the cables and connect them to the new fan. Finally, replace the cap.

Replace the condenser fan

Unplug the refrigerator and remove the panel from its back. Now, you can reach the condenser and compressor fan. Your next step is to turn on the refrigerator and wait a few seconds for the compressor to turn on.

Make sure the fan is running too. If the compressor works but the fan fails, get a new one. Now if none of the things work and the compressor seems too hot, turn the unit off and point a pedestal fan at the compressor.

Now, wait a few minutes for the compressor to cool down and try. If the fan does not work, it must be replaced. If neither the fan nor the compressor works, you need to get a new compressor relay. In this case, you need to contact a technician.

When should you replace the condenser fan?

You can replace it if it doesn’t work or makes a lot of noise. You may need to remove the bracket to remove the fan.

Install the new fan

Near the old fan, you will see some wires. Cut them out and connect the new fan with quality cable connectors. Plug in the new fan and check it again.
