German Shepherd – Correct Spelling

I don’t know about you, but I like to spell words correctly. Unfortunately, things have not always been that easy for me. I had difficulty spelling growing up and often missed many more words than I wanted to on my spelling tests. There has always been something frustrating for me when it comes to spelling. I have a pretty good memory when it comes to other things, but I have a hard time remembering the correct spelling for so many words that aren’t spelled the way they should be pronounced. All those silent lyrics really baffle me!

I could go on for hours on some of the words that always seem to grab me, but there is one that took me by surprise. I have owned German Shepherds for many years and I can tell you that they are my favorite breed. They are wonderful dogs, but for some reason, I spent many years not spelling them right!

I had always thought he was a German Shepherd for some reason. This was obviously wrong, although it seems like it should be pronounced that way. The silent h in the word really puzzles me.

Anyway, here’s a little trick you can use that I learned myself. Since I connected these two things, I have never lost the word again. German Shepherds were used to herd sheep in Germany in the late 19th century. Note the herd at the end of the word. The “sheep” part (instead of sheep) is another story, but I trust you can get it right. I hope this helps!
