Can the Washington Redskins pull it off?

The Washington Redskins have not started their 09′ exactly as expected. In fact, they are probably the lowest-performing team in the NFL thus far: They lost to the Detroit Lions in Week 3. Either the Detroit Lions finally got a win and it turned out to be the Redskins, or the loss. against the Lions showed the Redskins’ lack of focus and determination. The Redskins’ offense is one of the worst in the NFC: quarterback Jason Campbell is completing a high percentage of his passes, but the Redskins can score in the red zone.

RB Clinton Portis is a pedestrian like the year and is only averaging 3 yards per carry. The Redskins’ wide receiver core is talented, but it hasn’t played like that. WR Santa Moss, WR Antwaan Randle El and WR Cris Cooley have the explosive, playmaking skills that Campbell can’t seem to find often enough. The Redskins’ defense isn’t the best, but it’s not even close to the worst either, so the problem lies in the execution of the offense.

The Redskins have to build offense and do it fast before they fall too far back in the race for the NFC East division. The Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are better teams right now.

At 34, LM London Fletcher leads the defense in tackles. From 01 ‘to 08’, Fletcher started and played in every game in his position without missing a game due to injury, something extraordinary.

Head coach Jim Zorn is on the bench if he can’t create some spark with his offense. The Redskins are a proud franchise with a rich history, if Zorn can’t produce for the Redskins fans and owners by motivating his players, he won’t last the season. Players should come ready to play and not play the blame game too.
