BING – Can Microsoft Take Down Google?

Let’s get ready for Ruuummble!

Microsoft has put on the gloves and is calling the heavyweight champion … Google.

Contender: Bing, Microsoft’s new “Decision Engine,” is a cutting-edge tool ready to meet any “navigator” need. Its distribution is very clean and pleasing to the eye. By creating Bing, Microsoft hopes to go beyond the user experience and help customers make better decisions, initially focusing on four key vertical areas: making a purchase decision, planning a trip, researching a health condition or finding a local business. Microsoft has done its homework; hence, targeting 30-42% of dissatisfied users.

Champion: Google’s search engine is by far the king of all search engines. When it comes to keywords, pay-per-click (PPC) ads, search engine optimization (SEO), and search rankings, it’s all Google-related. Plus, for everyday Joe (and Jane), Google is a household name. Google has tagged themselves well … they are synonymous with the word “search”.

Dashboard: After spending several hours comparing both engines, these are my findings: Overall: 10-9 Bing
o Bing has a “clean” look on its rendered pages. They also offer additional fonts on the left and at the bottom of each page. Very thoughtful and insightful.
o The travel section is exceptionally impressive. Enter your departure location and final destination and Bing will help you with the best prices. Bing will also let you know if that price will fluctuate.
o As for the videos, all I can say is WOW! All you have to do is hover your mouse over the thumbnail and it starts playing! Amazing feature!
o Well, what about still photos? Well, when you “hover” over the photo, the image expands and gives you the option to “see similar images.” Very cool.

In my opinion, Bing offers the best advance in search technology; therefore, it is a much better option than Google. Now can he topple the champion? Not necessarily … at least not in the immediate future. However, Microsoft has really impressed me with their overall end product. I will give Bing a fair chance and start using their services.
