Tribute to Michael Jackson – Inspired me and many others

My tribute to Michael Jackson begins by saying that Michael is an example of someone who did what he was passionate about. He lived the purpose and passions of his life. He loved to sing, dance, act, etc.

I would like to share some stories of what it means to me. When I was 9 years old, the Motown 25 Special appeared on television. Michael sang “Billie Jean” and debuted on the moonwalk. My family recorded the show and I watched it every day for at least a month. I was so in awe of him. From that moment on I loved dancing. I started inventing dances for every song I heard on the radio. Years later, I even had my own dance business.

In 1984, my parents took me to see The Victory Tour. My parents bought a Michael Jackson poster that is still hanging in my room to this day. I also have a drawer in my room with Michael Jackson memorabilia. I am so glad I saved everything.

When I was a kid, every year I ate a Michael Jackson birthday cake. He was a huge part of my childhood and I am so grateful for every moment of joy.

On September 10, 2001 (the day before September 11), I was in New York City for Michael’s 30th anniversary celebration. After that show, I called my mother and told her everything. Later, he commented that the phone call was the happiest and most excited he has ever heard from me. I think God really made that show possible. God allowed Michael to put smiles on so many faces that night. We were able to have a night full of joy and happiness (before the terrorist attacks the next day).

I had tickets to see Michael in concert on July 18, 2009. It would have been another exciting day for me. However, I am very happy and grateful that I was able to attend the 2001 concert, and I have so many wonderful memories of Michael that I will take with me. Your music will live forever.

Michael is in the Guinness Book of World Records for selling more albums than any other artist. It has touched the lives of so many people around the world.

  • The Reverend Run (of Run DMC) said that after hearing Michael’s song, “Ben,” he knew he wanted to be an entertainer.
  • Kobe Bryant said Michael told him it was okay to be different. By different, I meant it was okay to immerse yourself in your craft. Kobe said that Michael’s success did not happen by chance. Michael had goals / dreams and made them come true.
  • One of my friends from high school told me that because of Michael’s song, “Man in the Mirror,” he decided to go into the nonprofit / human services arena and run for office.
  • Another friend told me that when he was younger, his soccer coach told him to study Michael Jackson. Michael had such a positive energy about him. Your coach said that’s the kind of energy you want to unleash.
  • Michael was the first African-American artist to be portrayed on MTV. It paved the way for many other artists.

Michael was also a humanitarian. He loved helping people (especially children). He had such a kind heart.

He was a great worker. He paid attention to details and made his dreams come true.

Let’s all live to work a little harder, set goals, and make our dreams come true. Let us also always remember the importance of giving back and helping others. Think of ways you can make a difference in someone’s life. Put a smile on the face of a stranger. Get out there and do something that you are passionate about. Discover and live the purpose and passions of your life. Do something to make the world a better place.

My tribute to Michael Jackson comes to an end with the following quote from Michael’s song, “Man in the Mirror.”

“If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make that change.”
