Top Celebrity Wedding Trends of 2012

Wow, 2012 brought us a LOT of celebrity weddings to look up to and to give us lots of great ideas for 2013. From simple “home-style” weddings to luxurious destination finery, those in the spotlight left us with a lot to talk about.

It’s easy to see how celebrity weddings set the trends for the year ahead. Even those who successfully pull off a private affair end up getting a take or two of the “Yes, I do” tabloid or blog posts at some point. Naturally, the rest of us notice a great idea or two, and a new trend is born!

These are some of the best trends observed in 2012.

Assortments of desserts

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds tied the knot in September 2012. Guests enjoyed a dessert buffet that included not only their four-tier vanilla and sour cream pie filled with peach and apricot, but also s’mores bars. , fruit jellies and espresso beans. and mini cakes in various flavors.

Clueless her co-star Elisa Donovan and her new husband Charlie Bigelow also gifted their closest and loved ones with an assortment that included French macaroons, mini cupcakes and hot cookies and milk.

Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied also posted an extension that included French macaroons.

The Food Network’s own Robert Irvine did not disappoint his guests at his wedding to Gail Kim in May of this year. He hired a pastry chef to treat everyone to a variety of wedding cupcakes that included red velvet, lemon poppy seed, and chocolate chips.

Many of this year’s celebrities steered clear of fancy dinners. Ann Hathaway and Adam Shulman celebrated their wedding in September. They served all locally grown organic vegetables and meats to their guests. Its decor included naturally elegant branches and rustic-looking accents.

Everything old is new again! Vintage lace and antique-inspired pink and gold tones made it big this year. Blake Lively was adorned with golden rose embroidery on her dress and soft pink hydrangeas on her bouquet. Jack Osbourne’s lovely girlfriend Lisa Stelly had her bridesmaids decked out in pink maxi dresses.

Matthew McConoughey’s girlfriend Camila Alves wore a long-sleeved vintage dress as did Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore and Josh Lucas’s girlfriend Jessica Ciencin Henriquez also sported the layered look.

Good to know that calla lilies are still in fashion, as Elisa Donovan accentuated her vintage bouquet with them, as well as ivory and lilac roses.

Musician Annie Lennox looked lovely in her 1920s headdress just like Anne Hathaway. Annie also included rose in her bouquet as did Drew Barrymore.

The offices Ellie Kemper wore vintage-style jewelry with her ensemble with Michael Koman for her July wedding.

Justin Timberlake’s girlfriend, Jessica Biel, was stunning in her Giambattista Valli couture gown – in petal pink of course!

AND Jumping the broom Star Meagan Good said her own “I do” for real on June 16. She and her boyfriend, DeVon Franline, opted for an antique-looking wedding with shades of pink and gold.

Family roles

This year, many celebrities incorporated their family members into their wedding in some interesting ways. Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves had children of their own as ring bearers and florist. Elisa Donovan’s brother walked her down the hall. Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney walked down the aisle towards his girlfriend Emily Ward with the accompaniment of his dog, Charlotte. And Eric’s father Christian Olsen performed his wedding ceremony with Sarah Write in June.

The singing groom

You would expect no less from Justin Timberlake, who serenaded his new girlfriend with a guitar solo he wrote just for that special day. And the guests of Megan Gillis and Robin Barker enjoyed a music concert that featured the groom’s performance.

Big Sur California maintained the romance and magic in 2012 by being the meeting place for Josh Lucas and his girlfriend. Actresses Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman must also have felt the romance to celebrate their weddings in this beautiful destination.
