Three reasons to wear soccer gloves

Do you play soccer and need protection for your hands and fingers? Maybe your hands need protection from the weather or you just need something to give you a better grip on the ball. Soccer gloves are the answer!

There are many reasons why players wear soccer gloves. Here are three reasons why a player will wear soccer gloves.

  1. The most important purpose of soccer gloves is to provide the player with a firm grip on the ball. In one hand or catching the ball with sweaty hands, the ball becomes slippery. Running backs and catchers’ gloves can be a bit sticky in the palm area. Basically to have a better grip on the ball.
  2. Gloves also give protection to the hands. On some passing plays, the force of the ball is strong enough to cause abrasions and cuts to the hands. When defensive or offensive players are down on spikes, they need protection from helmets, face masks, and to keep cleats from stepping on their hands. These gloves are designed to provide this additional protection.
  3. Players also wear gloves to protect themselves from the weather. When it’s raining or snowing, that’s reason enough for a slippery situation between the player’s hands and the ball. First, the ball has to come from the center toward the quarterback. Second, from the quarterback to the running back or receiver. Gloves keep hands and fingers dry and warm and give them flexibility so players can get a better grip on the ball.

Soccer gloves come in different styles for certain positions. Quarterbacks, receivers, corners, and running backs wear regular-style gloves. Defensive and offensive linemen typically wear gloves with a cropped fingertip but thicker padding. These gloves are made by companies like Nike, Reebok, and Under Armour. It is up to you to choose the right pair that suits your needs.
