Can a person live without a car?

That is, without having one. I’m here to tell you that you can. After all, I was practically born on the Los Angeles freeways and always had a car, even in Manhattan. After I retired, we moved the garage uptown. When we realized that we had to travel to get to the car, we thought it was time to rethink.

So we sold it on Autotrader. They told us how much it was worth, how much to order, and what to say in the ad. Then they posted it everywhere (they keep your info private until you reveal it to the buyer) and we sold it without a hitch.

No more insurance, garage or repair bills, so we’re using the money for more important things like having fun. You’d be surprised how reasonable a comfortable, air-conditioned New Jersey transit bus is for a trip to Atlantic City ($ 16 one way for seniors 62+). When you arrive, walk along the boardwalk, swim in the ocean, and eat. If you don’t play, this will be a very reasonable trip. However, take a moment to pay your respects to the gods at Caesar’s Palace and try to stop laughing.

And then there is Zipcar. For around $ 9 / hour during the week, you can rent it for short breaks. I found our rental in a nearby garage. It is fast, cheap and easy. For a trip to the outlets, get a 1/2 price bus coupon at Goldstar and shop, shop, shop.

By the way, you can also get half-price tickets to the Yankee and Mets at Goldstar, plus lots of little rides around our city. Better yet, try out your minor league teams in Staten Island and Brooklyn; you can watch the Staten Island Yankees for $ 22 / pp.

For a nice harbor ride with great views of the city, take the 1 train to the South Ferry and then ride the free Staten Island Ferry. Then head to the ball park which is very close.

Now take a trip to your past. Take the D, F, N or Q train to the last stop, Coney Island, and head to the parachute jump. The ball park is located just below and near the cyclone. On Wednesdays, all Brooklyn Cyclone seats are $ 10.

Ever wanted to sit behind home plate? You can do it here. You see the team warming up, hitting home runs and making mistakes, up close and personal. You may see the next Mariano Rivera on the mound.
