The Twilight Saga – Eclipse – A Review of the First Trailer

The first trailer for the third film in the Twilight series of films based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling books is here! This first trailer gives us our first look at scenes from the highly anticipated movie, which opens this summer, not even a year since the second movie New Moon was released. New Moon was a huge hit with fans on every continent, but will that mania continue for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse release?

So after watching it, what does the trailer for Twilight Saga: Eclipse look like? Well, it’s hard to say. It’s clear that Summit has much of the look of the film yet to complete, which is why the trailer looks like an advertisement for a soap opera (well, I guess it is, actually), with only one or two finished effects shots shown.

This initial trailer for the Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie doesn’t really instill much hope that this third movie will be a better-made piece of entertainment, but we live in hope. Taylor Lautner’s performances as Jacob and Robert Pattinson as Edward seem as stiff as before, but the trailer continues to provoke paroxysms of delight in the Twilight fan community.

Personally, I think a shorter trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse would have been more effective, as it feels quite padded thanks to the lack of shots of stills, or something very much in particular. It would seem that Kristen Stewart is really finding her place as an actress now, as her Bella seems to be the only credible on-screen character in these things. It’s going to be interesting to see where her career goes after the Twilight movies (can’t wait to see her in the Runaways biopic, she looks amazing).

I’m sure the later trailers for this movie will be much more exciting for many people, as there will be some completed special effects shots and some more action. As it stands, it feels like a midweek soap opera ad with very, very mediocre cinematography and characters who seem capable of being excited solely by means of their hair (or indeed by whether or not they have a shirt). Still, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is sure to be a huge hit, but the question remains: how the heck is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’s gory, twisted, and extremely graphic storyline going to make it to the screen? Time will tell.
