So who is left to fight Georges St Pierre?

Georges St. Pierre’s roster of challengers got smaller as he has already beaten every top fighter in the UFC’s 170-pound weight division. St. Pierre defeated Hardy at will with a unanimous decision victory. St. Pierre looks unbeatable and has already cleaned up the welterweight division. If you look at the 170-pound division, I don’t see much competition for GSP in the near future. So who’s next for the Canadian welterweight fighter?

Jon fitch

The first time these two fought, GSP hit him so bad. He hit him with everything but the kitchen sink. However, Fitch has two things against him. First, his last seven bouts have made a decision. Like St. Pierre of late, Fitch is focused on getting past his opponent. Since many don’t find it exciting, UFC bosses are less likely to give him a title shot. Aside from being the best fight for St Pierre, he’s already gotten over it and most fans don’t want to see another lopsided fight.

Winner of Paul Daley and Josh Koscheck

Koscheck will face British striker Paul Daley. If Daley wins, the UFC has a new challenger. However, if Koscheck pushes Daley away, they may turn him down as GSp has already beaten the NCAA standout fighter. Again, no one wants to see St Pierre give Koscheck another beating and certainly no one wants Dan Hardy to turn down the title match.

Thiago alves

Alves is the heaviest forward who could knock out GSP. However, you have to hit it first and first. Once again, he already fought and lost to St Pierre convincingly. Although Alves will undergo exploratory surgery, he could return to action at UFC 114 this May in Las Vegas. It can be 2 or 3 years if Alves fights and keeps winning.

Paulo thiago

Paulo Thiago will likely have his next title shot if he wins his fight with Martin Kampmann. Thiago is often listed in the top ten welterweights in the world according to major mixed martial arts publications. He has a black belt in jujitsu and judo and has decent hands. Although Thiago might be just a solid win or two away from deserving a match with St. Pierre, he’s not necessarily a fan favorite among the American public.

Jake Shields

This is the fight every MMA fan wants to see. Shield’s is the best welterweight in the world besides St Pierre. He’s better on the field than GSP and has a black belt in jiu-jitsu with Cesar Gracie. He is also the former Shooto World Champion and is the current Strikeforce Middleweight Champion. Shields also has very good wrestling credentials and was a 2-time All American wrestler.

Many hardcore fans want to see him face St. Pierre, and UFC president Dana White has expressed interest in signing him.

If there’s one guy who’s going to beat or at least fight, it’s Jake Shields.
