Is there something good in Nigeria?

There are many positive things about this country that we can share.

-Personally I love their culture. When they talk, just by greeting him you can tell he’s from Nigeria. They love their culture and do not compromise on it when they are in a foreign country. You can even see it in his movies. Their movies show their culture, they don’t want to be like everyone else. Most of the best African writers are from there.

-Their sense of unity wherever they are. A brother from home would come to South Africa with nothing, but his other brothers will make sure they help him find himself. They support each other like Indians.

-Business -Most of them came here with just a passport, but today they own big businesses. This is not just happening in South Africa, but all over the world. They always leave their mark wherever they are. And most of these businesses are really genuine.

-Tourism-There are many beautiful places in Nigeria. Lagos is the heart of the country with many things to do. You can visit many places of interest. The National Museum has a small village of artisans with wood caving and other crafts for sale at fixed prices. If you like music, Jazz Hole is a bookstore that also offers Nigerian music. You would not experience West Africa without visiting the market. Jankara Market is the largest in Lagos and sells everything from dyed fabrics, trade bead jewelry to pottery and clothing. You can also buy herbs, traditional medicines, and juju potions and powders. Their dishes are very tasty. There is a museum kitchen in Onikan where you can try traditional Nigerian cuisine. Or if you love seafood, Lobster Pot offers a wide selection with house specials.

-Nigeria has beautiful brothers and sisters. In the previous months in South Africa we had attacks of xenophobia, the communities blamed our African brothers and sisters for the bad things that happened in our land. Nigerians were blamed for selling drugs to the youth of these communities. Some were blamed for defrauding people out of their money. Just 2 months ago I took a trip to this beautiful West African country. I was amazed, all the stereotypes I had about it were erased by the warm welcome of my brothers there. The weather is warmer than ours in South Africa, but I really enjoyed my stay there.

I have mentioned just a few of the beautiful and inspiring things about Nigeria. It will take time for this country to have a positive image, but do yourself a favor if you hesitate to visit, just go once and experience Africa firsthand.
