Efficiency and planning in a website design and development association

It has become apparent that business policies, procedures and roles need a sea change to fit the current era. It has also become clear that the old ways of doing business in these new times no longer work. You need to adopt custom infrastructures, which means you can work more efficiently and deliver the best to your customers.

Customer satisfaction: Customer satisfaction and expectations about website delivery have changed beyond belief in recent years. Many other companies have had issues with clients where they built a site and delivered it, and then the client changes the spec drastically, costing more time and resources. Some companies charge (the client) extra for the changes to be made and this usually leaves a bad taste in your mouth, as a client, when you are not satisfied with the work you are paying for.

Customer needs: It has become apparent that clients today do not understand the timelines, skill requirements, and costs involved in conceiving, designing, and developing a website. While trying to meet the client’s demands right up to the time the website is built, the client invariably seeks input from other sources, which in turn means that the brief they agreed to has changed out of all proportion to the original specifications. If the contracts are in place, this should alleviate any problems you may be facing.

Prices and contract: Most companies/individuals who build websites use the fag package pricing method. This means that as a customer you are not really sure what you should be paying and therefore you may get very different prices for something that you think will be delivered by any company. This is a common mistake, and one our industry does little to help. Basically, you should be given a proposal outlining the scope, purpose of the site, color schemes, target audience, contact mechanisms, data collection aspects. This should have come from you via a previously delivered briefing paper. In the proposal there should be options, timelines, expectations for both parties to deliver on their promises (from the client side this would normally be images, logos, photos or copies). Pricing should be based on estimated time of completion, site tier, site type, resources required, and other circumstances that may be unique to your project. It’s reasonable to assume that if a project has a quoted schedule of more than 3 months then it won’t cost you £1000. Nobody works for free and the old saying “you get what you pay for” should apply, but sometimes clients don’t even get it, and we have an average of 3 companies a month that contact us because their web designer has disappeared, not delivered, parameters and prices changed, or a combination of all of the above. All work must be governed by a legally binding contract that covers both parties and includes the scope of the contract and all details set out in the original specification to ensure the safety of both parties and also ultimate satisfaction.

business efficiency: Companies in our sector have introduced a new efficient way of working. All pages are now designed and 100% finished for the visual representation of the site before any development work takes place. You’ll be surprised how much time this can save on the overall project implementation schedule due to the many small changes that would normally take a long time to rectify. Now your project can be delivered much faster and exactly according to your expectations.

Project control and planning: Project control is critical when running a website company. Before, the old way you worked with the developer and he built your site. Our new way is that there is a project controller responsible for every aspect of the site, from graphics to content and development. Ensure that the client receives their project on time and exactly according to their specifications.

Final product delivery: In the delivery of any website there is always the concern that the client will not like the final product. This new way ensures that they have seen a true graphical representation of the site, down to the pixel, of exactly what your website will look like on each page. This means minimal development time and therefore reduces development costs to a minimum. This should ensure success for you and your clients, while saving a great deal of time and money to get started!
